DIY {We Love the Earth} Board Honoring Earth Day
Earth-loving ideas to get the kids excited about living GREEN!
Need an easy way to get the people around you thinking "greener?" This simple project to KICK OFF SPRING GREENING MONTH will get everyone involved!
One of the {many} great lessons I learned as a teacher: kids will be more invested in activities that they have some ownership in. So with that in mind, I created this simple Love the Earth Board as a sort-of "green checklist" to get us in the mood for Earth Day.
It's a super-easy project that you can leave up for as long as you want (we're starting with about two months), and it's a great reminder to all family members that green decisions are important (and well within their reach)! This is also a perfect classroom activity to get students involved in Earth Day.
DIY "Love the Earth" Ideas Board {Earth Day Activities for Kids}
- Choose a location for your board. You don't need a blackboard--just using a piece of posterboard (or, better yet, reuse one side of a cardboard box) works perfectly!
- Work together to come up your a list of "green ideas." You can guide them, but it's important that the kids contribute their own ideas--this is what gives them some ownership over the project. If they're old enough to write on their own, let them write out the ideas.
- Every time someone completes a "Love the Earth" action, they should draw a heart next to that item on the checklist! By the end of the month, the board should be BURSTING with hearts ;)
Post your checklist in a high-traffic area so everyone has a friendly reminder to keep up the "green" work ;)
My girls have been very excited to make their green actions "official," and the whole activity has helped raise some great questions, especially about conservation and waste reduction. Have fun making yours!

Super cute! I love this idea and am tempted to go buy a board to do this with. I wish we could paint a wall, but alas the woes of an apartment home.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Shary! I've definitely lived thru the rental "no DIY" times! Puts such a damper on the creative juices... then again, sometimes I found it actually forced me to be more creative! Thanks for stopping by. Have a great weekend!
DeleteGreat post! I love that board. So cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amber! Today I'm thankful for its bright colors since it's cold and overcast here AGAIN in New England!! :(
DeleteMy daughter would love this! I'm definitely pinning this for later.
ReplyDeleteYay! Thanks, Chrystal!
